Advantages of Digital Media
Until recently, every available method of capturing and preserving memories was analog. Analog media–such as the old photos, reels, and tapes being stored in the attic– is sensitive to time, temperature, and humidity. It also loses quality with each transfer. “Generational loss” refers to the loss of quality that occurs between subsequent copies. Each generation (copy) of the tape is reduced in quality from the previous tape, so a fourth-generation copy will have significantly diminished quality when compared to the original.
Digital media can be transferred over and over without loss of quality. The digital format contains computer code which is preserved with each transfer and used to re-create the images. All forms of media have a limited life (perhaps 10 to 20 years for miniDV and 100+ years for DVcam and most DVDs), but all can be re-copied at intervals, literally forever, without loss of quality to the digital images.
Once in digital format, and if proper care is taken, the images can last for as long as you and those who follow wish to maintain them. DT Transfer and Edit provides a professional, top quality transfer of your films to a digital format so that your memories can be preserved forever.
